Eloise Manion from Adorn Invitations describes how the invitations for Vanessa Williams were produced.
How did Vanessa find out about Adorn Invitations?
Adorn’s unique wedding invitations have a very strong presence on Pinterest and Instagram which is where Vanessa happened to find our work. Our work is extremely customisable and creative so Vanessa found that this was a great option considering the unique theme she had in mind.
Vanessa and Jim’s Love story
Vanessa and Jim first met whilst on a trip to Egypt in 2012. The New York accountant from Buffalo and the Ugly Betty star were both cruising down the Nile when they laid eyes on each other. The couple hit it off and enjoyed first three hour date where they discovered they had a lot in common. Three years on and the couple are now happily married.
The first steps…
Drawing on her Egyptian theme and inspiration from her lavish ‘Carmen Marc Valvo’ gown, Vanessa had a very basic idea of the details she wanted but the rest was pretty much left up to the design team to pitch ideas on colour themes, invitation designs and even down to the décor such as the flowers (peonies), golden table and seat cloths and golden laser cut cake holders. Our ideas resonated with Vanessa and these designs really trickled down into all elements of the wedding. We proposed the colour of Marsala (Pantones colour of the year) and to combine it with highlights of gold and she really loved it. She also loved our attention to detail with including the lace feature on her dress onto the invitations.
What was included in the designs?
Vanessa stationery set included a wedding invitation card, RSVP cards, security information card, accommodation information, custom envelopes for invitations and reply cards and place cards. The envelope enclosure was laser cut from a bright gold, shimmery metallic paper from our curious metallic range. We also used a gold foiling technique for the stamp on the outside of the envelope. This contrasted beautifully against the rich Marsala base.
The most special element of the design
During the Inspiration process, we figured out that the lotus flower had a really special meaning in Vanessa and Jim’s relationship. The flower has a strong presence in new age spirituality and signifies new beginnings and luck. We’d also found out that Jim had engraved the lotus flower on their engagement bands so we’d decided that we had to have this detailing on the invitation.
We designed and laser cut a 14k gold plated flower that we hand applied to every invitation for the perfect finish. This acted as a beautiful introduction to Vanessa and Jim’s blossoming life together.
Vanessa and Jim absolutely adored our invites; this is what she had to say:
“Thanks for such extraordinary work in creating a beautiful piece of art.
The invites were a huge hit with our guests!”
We fell in love with invites (and with Vanessa’s blessing) we will put her invitation design into production later this year and make it affordable to everyday couples – less the 24 carat gold plated décor!
About working with Vanessa
This is the first time we worked with a celebrity of such calibre, and we found the experience to be a really enjoyable one! She was extremely down to earth and also really enthusiastic about all of our ideas which made the journey even more enjoyable. Also, not having a set budget was a bonus as well!
