Back in January we ran an article about a group of military wives who were organising a competition for military, fire, police and ambulance services to win a wedding. On April 3rd the wedding took place.
Chantilly Rose Weddings & Events had pledged their full wedding planning package over a 12 month period for a wedding competition run by Lula Mai Events back in April 2015.
The estimated value of all the goods and services pledged from local businesses stands at £22,000.
Lula Mai Events is a team of military wives, based at RAF Brize Norton, Oxfordshire. They specialise in wedding and event management and supply goods and services including venue decor to facilitate this. In January 2014 they took the decision to put on a wedding for a couple from a military or emergency services background and launched Lula Mai Events – The Big Day.
Their aims for this project were:
1. To find and help a deserving couple from the military, fire, police or ambulance service, who for one reason or another have not yet been able to realise their dream day. They are there for us every hour of the day, throughout every day of the year and to be able to give something very real back to one couple is the best gift someone can offer. To make as many people smile in one day.
2. To give as many local businesses and organisations the chance to be involved in a special project and to share that sense of satisfaction and community spirit as well as promoting both their peers and competitors in the industry to ensure that they all work together more in the future.
3. Giving is fun. It’s rewarding and satisfying to help someone else purely because you can and are able to and there should be a much more giving of something tangible, visible, and practical to others. Lula Mai Events love to collaborate and be with like minded people, they love to make new friends and strengthen business relationships, they love being busy and accept bribes in the form of cake too.
Rachel Williams is the founder of Lula Mai Events. Rachel has previously worked for Thames Valley Police and is married to a licensed engineer on Voyager for Air Tanker services based at RAF Brize Norton.
